Lonely Planet: Asia

Lonely Planet is one of the world's experts on travel to Asia, stemming from Southeast Asia on a Shoestring, the original book first published by Tony and Maureen Wheeler in 1975 that started it all.  Today, Lonely Planet publishes a wide variety of very comprehensive travel guides to suit any kind of trip.  The standard guidebooks are perfect for most travelers, but there are also pocket guides, phrasebooks, and more.  Lonely Planet has books covering each country and many wider regions.

The Rough Guide: Southeast Asia

Rough Guides is another excellent travel guide series for travelers to Asia, known for their very honest and authentic approach.  Like other guidebook series, the history of the company was tied to backpackers but over time their coverage has broadened to cover most budgets. The Rough Guide to Southeast Asia  on a Budget is one of their best books, and more true to their original roots than some of their other editions.
