THE A5 BOOK REVIEWLong Way Down is a book by Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman about an extended motorcycle trip they took in 2007 through eighteen countries in Europe and Africa, starting from John o’Groats in the north of Scotland, ending in Cape Town, South Africa. The book is a follow up to a similar journey the two celebrities made in 2004, described in the book Long Way Round, when they rode over 2,500 miles from London to New York. Like before, the expedition was turned into a television series and so the duo was again accompanied by a whole team of cameramen, producers, fixers, and even a security officer. Long Way Down doesn’t have as much of the wonder of their first trip, but some of their experiences traveling through Africa make this book just as compelling.

THE ORIGINAL TRIP - LONG WAY ROUNDIf possible, before reading Long Way Down, our recommendation is to first read Long Way Round, the story of the team’s first epic motorcycle round-the-world eastward journey. This was the original idea as conceived by McGregor, when the concept was newer and they weren’t quite as prepared for the physical endurance and the inevitable highs and lows of riding thousands of miles on a motorcycle. It is a very entertaining travelogue, easy to read, and enjoyable.
