One of our favorite travel-related memoirs comes from Gloria Steinem, the famous activist and feminist leader.  My Life on the Road tells the story of how a lifetime of travel has affected her view on the world, starting from her summers as a kid going on cross-country road trips with her family.  Her writing is candid and humble, and her quest for discovery and learning as a self-described “wandering organizer” is inspiring.  Steinem's travel book covers her first experience touring India and working directly with women, her career as a journalist, her involvement with Dolores Huerta and Cesar Chavez, her leadership of the historic 1977 National Women’s Conference, and the founding of Ms. Magazine.  In short, travel is the underlying theme; her life on the road gave her real life first-hand perspective and a sense of freedom that helped fuel a movement that would truly change the world.
