THE A5 BOOK REVIEWOut of Sheer Rage: Wresting with D.H. Lawrence is only indirectly about D.H. Lawrence, The book is much more about a writer’s struggles in writing a book about D.H. Lawrence. Geoff Dyer’s goal was a serious academic homage but a powerful unbending writer’s block got in the way, turning his work instead into a truthful and humorous account of his procrastination and futility. Part of his trouble was to decide where to write the book; Paris was just too expensive, Rome was just too hot, and Greece was just too captivating. He and his girlfriend restlessly travel to where Lawrence lived, ultimately somewhat accepting that the original book would not be written as planned, even welcoming the distractions along the way. Out of Sheer Rage was a finalist for a National Book Critics Circle Award.

LEAVE YOUR OWN REVIEW HEREGREAT QUOTES FROM OUT OF SHEER RAGE“When I'm working I'm wishing I was doing nothing and when I'm doing nothing I'm wondering if I should be working. I hurry through what I've got to do and then, when I've got nothing to do, I keep glancing at the clock, wishing it was time to go out. Then, when I'm out, I'm wondering how long it will be before I'm back home.”
