THE A5 BOOK REVIEWNoted adventure travel writer Tim Cahill has a number of collections of writing, and quite honestly they are all pretty good. Pecked to Death by Ducks is packed with funny descriptions of his never-ending tour of the world's most remote and surreal places. He starts in Kuwait, amidst the madness of burning oil wells set on fire by Iraqi troops, starting a section he calls "The Unnatural World". He then moves to the natural world, including Lechuguilla, a recently discovered cave now known to be the deepest in the United States. One of his best stories, "Bear in Mind", describes how he fell asleep from exhaustion while watching a grizzly bear. Other trips include Antarctica, El Peten in Guatemala, Australia, a visit to the sanghyang dancers of Bali, Taquile Island (considered part of Peru), Not every location is geographically remote; two of his articles explore issues closer to home, with a visit to drug-addled streets of East San Jose, California and the border patrol guarding against illegal aliens in Arizona. Like always with Cahill, the stories are brief, insightful, and funny.

LEAVE YOUR OWN REVIEW HEREGREAT QUOTES FROM PECKED TO DEATH BY DUCKS"What I have been doing for the last fifteen years is chronicling, in various magazines, that urge in all of us. I have the sense that, in my foolishness, others find inspiration. If this clown can do it, I imagine a reader thinking, so can I. There is some small and distant nobility here; For the past fifteen years I have been in the business of giving people back their dreams."
