THE A5 BOOK REVIEWLonely Planet is best known of course as the world’s leading publisher of travel guidebooks, but the company also has created a number of general travel books. One of the biggest (literally at 448 pages with 850 pictures) is called The Travel Book, an introduction to the world with a description of every single one of the United Nations-approved countries. Each country in this fourth edition is profiled by the company’s expert travel writers, with details on what to do and when to visit. The book is almost an encyclopedia of travel, with maps of each country, strong photography, and descriptions of the culture. Readers will be surprised at just how many countries they don't know. The Travel Book is an excellent gift for those inspired by geography and travel.

OTHER TRAVEL WRITING FROM LONELY PLANETLonely Planet is of course best known as the word's most successful producer of travel guides, but the company also publishes a number of other books dedicated to the excitement and inspiration that come from the travel experience. The story of the company's founders, The Lonely Planet Story: Once While Travelling, is interesting and definitely well worth the read. Those who like The Travel Book might also like the children's version.
